I was born and brought up in Kolkata. Though chaotic and uncertain, I’d always found peace in some corner of the city. I am a free spirit and love travelling to the mountains. If I ever get a chance, I would settle down in the Himalayas because it heals me from within.
Growing up in a politically-charged city, I wanted to contribute to the general awareness but I was not sure how until I landed a job as a sub-editor in a newspaper.
It’s been a little more than two years on the desk and I hope to make a mark in the news industry gradually, and reach out to people all over the world.
Current profession: I am working in the Times of India, Kolkata (Bhubaneswar Edition). My job is to pick up good stories, edit and place them appropriately on page. I have to get the correct information, facts and value additions for a copy and give creative headlines. I also select appropriate visuals, arrange tables and ensure quality checks.
I am assigned to deliver a ZERO error page with good headlines and attractive layouts within deadlines.
Future goals/aspirations: I believe in setting small targets and achieving them with utmost accuracy. I am young and still experimenting. But, yes with enough money someday, I would like to open safe and secure shelter homes for the elderly and orphan children. And, most importantly, be happy and grateful.
What’s your dream job? I don’t dream of a perfect job but a world where people would have access to real news and there won’t be forces trying to suppress them. Everyone should be able to voice his/her own opinions, free from bias and prejudice, and live in harmony.
In a parallel world, maybe I’ll try my hands at travel journalism and be exposed to brand new cultures and cuisines.
Education: After completing school in 2011, I did my Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Political Science from Presidency University, Kolkata (2011-2016).
