Tell us about your educational background.
While I never completed my secondary education (I had three years for an Accounting major) I decided to start my own business at the age of 20. It was a payroll processing business and this endeavor taught me more than I could have ever learned in college. I had many ups and downs and was on the brink of bankruptcy more than once. During this time I became a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) and an IRS Enrolled Agent. This meant I could negotiate on behalf of my clients before the tax authorities. I really had to figure out my power.
Tell us more about your family, with whom you are closest?
My husband, Robert, and I are truly soul mates. We have been together for over 20 years – he is my biggest fan and supporter. We love doing “family stuff” together such as sporting events, movies and exercise with our two boys, Alex and Austin.
What kind of modeling/spokesperson projects have you done?
I am the “go to” person for fashion shows in my area. I have worked with all sorts of nonprofit organizations to choreograph, select models and fashions for fundraising luncheons and dinners. I love to host and emcee the events. When I was younger I was a Macy’s model and modeled in tons of fashion shows in the Philadelphia area. It was a lot of fun but time consuming!
Do you have any interest in politics?
No.
What’s your dream job?
I would love to be a show host on QVC. I have auditioned a few times and been close, but not quite there yet. I know I will try it again; in fact I will never stop trying until I make it happen!
What kind of philanthropic/fundraising projects have you done?
Every year I do an event called Northern Lights of Life, raising funds for breast cancer research, treatment and awareness. I am the chair of the fashion show and we feature some amazing clothes all modeled by breast cancer survivors. We typically raise between $225,000 and $250,000 during the event.
What are your favorite platforms or which charitable organizations you admire most?
National Breast Cancer Coalition, American Cancer Society, Mommie’s Light, Blessings in a Backpack.
Ten years from now where do you see yourself?
Retired! I won’t quite be of retirement age but my husband and I have always talked about moving wherever our oldest son goes to college – and he has to pick a resort destination. So, we’re thinking Hawaii, Florida or California as potential locales. Hopefully Alex cooperates and does not choose a school where it is cold!
